At our clinic we encourage parents to be present during the appointment. This way you can tell us any information about the injury they may have forgotten. After the first appointment you will understand what has caused your child’s injury and how to fix it. They will also feel immediate pain relief from treatments in that session. The quicker they come and see us the faster they will improve and get back to activity. This will also help stop the problem from getting worse.
What happens at the physio appointment?
Firstly, you and your child will talk to the physiotherapist about the problem and how it impacts their life. For some children this is not being able to play with friends and for others it means they cannot compete at national sport competitions. Next we will look at some movements of injured area and perform some easy tests.
We will then tell you in simple terms what is causing the issue and how we can fix it, no confusing medical terms, just simple English.
After we will perform treatment. This will include some hands-on therapy to help improve movement and settle pain. Specific, fun, exercises will be given to perform at home to speed up recovery. We aim to make this process as fun and enjoyable for your child as possible.
